Now that season 3 of Queer Eye is streaming on Netflix, fans of the show can take steps to nominate their own heroes for season 4. And, even though the process doesn’t appear to be widely publicized, Netflix has laid out a series of steps individuals can take to make it happen for the upcoming season.
In Queer Eye, the Fab Five - made up of Tan France, Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, and Jonathan Van Ness - spend a week with individuals they refer to as “heroes” in order to help give their lives better direction. Focusing primarily on wardrobe, food, culture, design, and grooming, the Fab Five has helped everyone from a young gay woman struggling with her identity to a widower struggling to raise his two sons. Now, with Queer Eye’s fourth season around the corner, Netflix will need a new batch of heroes for the Fab Five to help. Aside from location, it’s just a matter of figuring out how to make it happen.
When it comes to being considered for Queer Eye, the biggest necessity is that potential heroes live in or around the area in which season 4 takes places. So, if Netflix follows the same path as previous seasons, it’s possible that season 4 will remain in Kansas City, Missouri, meaning all nominees must live within that vicinity. As mentioned in last season’s casting call, participation requires individuals live “within a 1-hour radius of Kansas City.” From there, nominators then email the name, contact information, photos, and some details about the nominee’s personal story to QEcasting@ITV.com.
As of now, it’s entirely possible that the heroes for Queer Eye season 4 have already been cast. If Netflix rolls out season 4 similarly to how they rolled out seasons 1 and 2, then it’s entirely possible that production wrapped as long ago as last summer. So, with that in mind, fans looking to nominate their own heroes may find that nominating someone for season 5 is the more feasible option - though this has yet to be confirmed.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that Queer Eye is going international this year with a four-episode Netflix special Queer Eye: Were in Japan! So, while it’s still possible - and likely - that future seasons will still take place in the US, the series is clearly interested in expanding to other countries. Unfortunately, that only makes it more difficult to determine when and where Netflix might be interested in traveling next.
One interesting takeaway from the casting call is that Netflix is also seeking out couples as potential heroes for Queer Eye season 4. And, though season 3 did introduce its first duo - Mary and Deborah Jones of Jones Bar B-B-Q - the Fab Five has yet to focus on significant others simultaneously. Seeing as each season of Queer Eye has attempted to include more diversity with each episode to keep things fresh, that’s certainly worth keeping in mind when nominating a potential hero for Queer Eye season 4.
