Play in Teams

My friends and I do this all the time, especially when playing Mario Kart. Depending on the number of people you have will determine how many will be in each team. For racing games, teams of three are ideal. However, it is possible to play with teams of two. You play one lap per person with teams of three. The tricky part is doing the controller hand offs. It’s similar to doing the relay race in track. If you have teams of two, then the team members must do the third lap together.

You can also do this with shooting games. You just trade the controller after your character has been killed. Be careful when doing this though. I’ve almost lost friendships over selecting a cart and gun.

Make Up New Rules

No one said that you have to play by the same rules each time. Creating brand new rules will make the game more fun. The best part is you can make up new rules each game. It will never get old.

For example, my friends and me play blind team Mario Kart. We do the relays as mention above, and then one the last lap one person takes the controller while having their eyes closed. Their partner has to give them directions on where to go. This was extremely difficult on Rainbow Road, for the record.

Make a Bet

What a better way to make the game more interesting? Making a bet will make the competition more intense. It will get everyone in the fighting spirit. The bets don’t have to be very intense – in fact, the sillier they are the better. For example, a common bet I do is that the loser has to play the next round with the controller held backwards.

These are just a few suggestions on how to make old games more fun. One thing is certain; playing games with friends always makes things more fun. Let us know in the comments if you have any suggestions to add to our list.
